Watch the creative process at work with Art @ Mo’s artist in residence, Eveline Steele. A Choctaw living in Broken Bow, OK, she has reclaimed the Native American art of basketry and will demonstrate daily her expertise.
In June, 2011 Eveline presented her baskets at the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma Festival at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.
Eveline began basket weaving in 1990 by participating in a year-long apprenticeship with her mother. She values the art of traditional basketry taught by her mother and grandmother, harvesting her own cane.
Eveline will gather and work her reed into beautiful baskets, culminating in a final project the entire conference can enjoy. She will offer hands-on instruction during her 2-day mini-course.
