ELP: Field Instructors and Internship Program

Field Instructors
The Environmental Leadership Program is staffed by a group of professional, caring adults from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Field Instructors go through a rigorous selection process that includes interviews, references, criminal background checks and a drug screening. All staff participate in an extensive training program that focuses on communication and teaching skills, child behavior management, age level expectations, risk management and child abuse prevention. Staff receive specialized training and /or certifications in CPR, First Aid, Lifeguarding, Ropes Course Facilitation, Canoeing and Archery.
Internship Program
The purpose of our Internship Program is to provide seasonal positions to students and post-graduates who are looking for an educational-work experience in teaching through outdoor/environmental education. Interns may select to stay one, two, or three seasons depending on availability and job performance. With each subsequent season in our Program, Interns will gain additional knowledge, skills, responsibility, and of course, experience in the profession of outdoor/environmental education.
An educational-work experience is distinctly different from just an educational experience or just a work experience. An educational experience is characterized by the study of theory and standards; a great increase in knowledge, but it often lacks practical application. A work experience is characterized by the use and application of skills; learning does take place, but usually along an indirect route. It is often a large step from theory to practice! Our Program is designed to take that all-important step. It is a closely guided, practical, hands-on application of skills in a learning environment.
An Internship with the staff of Mo-Ranch Environmental Leadership Program is a special opportunity for quality hands-on training in a supportive work and learning environment. We provide a holistic experience of enrichment. Giving to the children, teaching in the outdoors, and continuous professional development enriches your heart, your soul, and your mind. Join us.
